Particle Velocity Instrumentation - Double Disc Annemometer (DDA) 2024

Designed, tested, and optimized a time-of-flight particle velocity measurement instrument for the aerospace materials laboratory. Using SolidWorks for the CAD and MATLAB’s application package for the user interface.

This electromechanical instrument measures particle velocity ranging 50 - 250 m/s ± 2.8%

This work, in conjunction with the instrument’s error and measurement sensitivity analysis, was a peer-reviewed publication. Ultimately, this particle velocimetry method costs the lab less than $1000, while alternative techniques (laser-Doppler or shadowgraphy velocimetry) cost in excess of $50,000 USD for comparable accuracy.
